Announcing Chinese New Year Heritage Festival at George Town

Replica of Dragon King’s Palace among highlights of celebration

VISITORS who are keen to know about the shape of the Dragon King’s Palace should make it a point to visit the Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage Celebration 2012 in Penang.

In view of the celebration, the Cheah Kongsi on Lebuh Armenian will be transformed into a replica of the Dragon King’s Palace during the celebration, which will be held from 3pm to midnight on Jan 29.

Organising secretary Loh Boon Huan said the man-made palace would be the centre of attraction as visitors would want to know the history behind the famous Chinese zodiac, the Dragon.

And next year is the zodiac year of the mythical creature too.

“It would be the first time ever that the replica of the palace would be displayed and visitors can also take photographs of a replica Dragon chair. The chair was de-signed and made according to the ones sat by past Emperors,” he told a recent press conference.

The event is jointly organised by the state government, the Penang Chinese Clan Council and Clan Associations Youth Committee Penang.

Penang Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said there would also be lion and dragon dances as well as chingay performances held at the main entrance to the cultural celebration area.

He said: “There would be a lifestyle exhibition with Chinese opera performances along Chulia Street.”

Visitors can experience the va-rieties of traditional Chinese cuisine such as steamed buns, stuffed dumplings, tea and many more on Cannon Street near the Khoo Kongsi.

The celebration will cover the inner township roads of Cannon Street, Armenian Street, Chulia Street, Acheh Street, Ah Quee Street, Soo Hong Lane, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling and Kampung Kolam.

祥龙献瑞庆壬辰文化庙会 呈现古人对龙信仰

(槟城10日讯)槟州年度新春重头好戏《祥龙献瑞庆壬辰文化庙会2012》,除了将通过“海底水晶龙宫”的方式,呈现古人对龙的信仰、崇拜及不同的传说,更首次展览并示范峇峇娘惹的传统服装、婚礼、食品和游戏,邀你在古色古香的古迹陪衬下,感受文化艺术魅力!

这项由槟州政府及槟州各姓氏宗祠联委会联合主催,槟州各姓氏宗祠青年团联委会主办的《祥龙献瑞庆壬辰文化庙会2012》将于明年1月29日,即农历正月初七,下午3时至午夜12时在乔治市古迹区隆重引爆。

黄汉伟:利用古迹力量

大会主席,也是掌管文化委员会事务的黄汉伟周五在新闻发布会上表示,这是利用古迹区的力量,混合文化艺术所展现的新春文化活动,具有多重意义,除了推动文化工作,带动新年气氛,也显现了州政府对文化遗产城的重视。

“在推动旅游业的同时,也冀透过这年度最具规模的新春庙会,让对古迹区产生疏离感的年轻一代,陌生的年轻一代,重新认识古迹。去年的庙会吸引了约10万名国内外游客。”

他说,虽然有单位建议为何不把庙会地点移师至旧关仔角或槟州同乐会广场举行,但大会考量,在现成的古迹区办庙会,不只是能够联系当地的宗祠家庙,更能展现槟城华人在古迹区的生命力,以及多元种族的街头文化色彩。因此,最后决定把明年庙会的地点定在乔治市古迹区。

四大主题区 谢川伟:呈现中华文化精髓

工委会主席谢川伟说,明年是龙年,龙对华人而言是吉祥与腾飞的象征,2012年的庙会年度盛事,则将通过四大主题区,即:“信仰”、“饮食”、“文艺”及“保健”,带出中华文化五千年的精髓。

四大主题区中的“信仰区”,将通过“海底水晶龙宫”的方式呈现古人对龙的信仰、崇拜及不同的传说;“饮食区”将利用“龙门客栈”来呈现,让现代人了解古人的饮食方式和食肆;“保健区”将更深入去了解各门派的拳术及各种神兽的玩法。

至于“文艺区”则要让现代人了解古人对文娱及艺术的热忱,将之继续发扬光大。值得一提的是,大会也以“万龙图”为题,准备一匹长布希望可收集2万名公众用毛笔字写成的“龙”字。现场也通过戏剧表演的方式,呈现棋盘上你争我斗的“真人象棋”。

他表示,其他街道及建筑物的活动包括《追踪溯源,承先启后》介绍华人姓氏来源及槟城各宗祠郊庙的资料展,认识堂号及猜姓氏灯谜;展出过往庙会经典图片的《那些年......》图片展;孙中山基地将展示孙中山在槟城的事迹和资料;慕韩别墅将举行“孙中山百年纪念图片展”;开放给公众参观的回教博物馆。

“此外,现场设有的‘籍贯区’,将有槟城各大籍贯乡会会馆及属会的历史图片展、籍贯剧场、民族服装、美食品尝及不同的文化展览;呈献独特传统老行业的《槟城夕阳行业旧头路》、《华人传统节庆》将演绎及展览华人的传统节庆食品、用品和庆祝方式;峇峇娘惹区,以及《古早儿时玩意儿》,将带领公众回味小时候的古早玩意儿,并让现时代的儿童认识过往爸妈小时候的游戏。”

今年的新春庙会设立在古迹区,即:打铜仔街、本头公巷、大统巷、打石街、亚贵街、四方巷、牛干冬及甘榜哥南。出席新闻发布会者包括宗联委主席孙诗景、工委会总策划钟骓巾宾、秘书骆汶焕、青联委副主席汪家伦、洪玉璇等人。
